UFC 128: Jon Jones Defeated Shogun Rua To Win UFC Title


Jon Jones takes throne in UFC 128 main event fight against Mauricio Rua by capturing the light heavyweight championship via TKO (strikes) at 2:37 of round 3.



The great Shogun never had chance as Jones secured his first takedown on round 1 and brutally punched and elbow the Brazilian. As Shogun stood in, Jones landed knee to the body and punches on the head making Rua wobbled and slow down.

On round 2, Jones performed his patented spinning back elbows and it landed perfectly on the Brazilian. He caught an attempted leg kick, drove Shogun to the ground and battered the Brazilian champion with punches and elbows to the head and body. The round ended with Jones attempted to do kneebar on the black belt brazilian jiu jitsu champion.

Shogun didn't have chance on round 3 as he chasing in with punches, but hits nothing but air. Head kick missed for Jones. In a short scramble, Jones puts Shogun on his back again and moved to half guard. From the guard he crushed Shogun with pure punches and elbows.

Shogun returned to standing position but was completely busted up at this point. Jones landed a knee standing and a body shot and dropped Shogun to the canvas. The referee jumped in to save the former PRIDE and UFC Champion.
The punishment left Shogun a mess that he never forget and he congratulate Jones for being the man and showing great muay thai and ground work.
Jon Jones who at 23 became the youngest UFC champion in history.
In his post fight interview Jones said, “It feels so good, It’s a testament that dreams do come true. Believe in yourself, and once you get there, don’t slow down. It comes true, everybody.”
